Twenty five years of marriage

After Mass this morning I was asked by one of those attending if I could give him and his wife a blessing on the occasion of their Silver Jubilee which they will be keeping on August 3rd. So this afternoon, Dan and Beverley Eberhard came with their daughters Rachel, Sarah and Kelsey for the blessing ceremony. Dan had bought his wife a surprise silver ring with some nice looking stones in it.

The words of the Psalm that we read were very apt:

Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
in the recesses of your home;
Your children like olive plants
around your table.

Dan and Beverley are from Battle Creek downstate Michigan and were here visiting their daughter's new home here in Marquette. It's a great joy to celebrate faithful married love and particularly to bless a couple who are full of faith in God.

  1. How nice! Congrats to them and their family.

    [BTW, the mention of "Battle Creek" brings a shiver up the spine to the average American. I don't know if it's still the case, but when I was a youngster (and for many years after) "Battle Creek" was where you'd send your cereal box top lids to get such exotic things as Yogi Bear mugs, Snow Cone makers, secret decoder rings and all manner of kid ephemera -- all for the mere exchange of 5,681 lids off the boxes of Post Toasties, Kellog's frosted Flakes, Coco Puffs, and God only knows what else we ingested for same.]
    I always imagined a town built entirely out of these box tops. I pity the people who had to count that stuff.

  2. Of course Battle Creek was (is ?) also notable for being almost entirely Seventh-Day Adventist : the (in)famous John Harvey Kellogg of the Battle Creek Sanitarium being just one of a large number of local SDAs connected with various interesting (to say the least) theories on physical health in the late C19 and early C20 . . . one of which led to Battle Creek becoming known as 'the enema capital of the world' ! (Read 'The Road to Wellville' for more information)
    All these factors probably explain why Dan & Beverley decided to have their Blessing in Marquette !
