Britain a 'top priority' for boy-size condoms

This from this week's edition of 'The Week':
Extra small condoms for boys as young as 12 are going on sale in Switzerland - and manufacturers are eyeing up Britain as their next potential target. The condoms, called Hotshot, were produced by Lamprecht AG, after studies showed that a growing number of 12 to 14-year olds were sexually active, but that a quarter of boys aged 13 to 20 found standard condoms too large. The firm says Britain will be a "top priority" if it expands abroad.
The sexualisation of our youngsters is big money. It will of course lead to more abortions for more young girls.

I see that this has already been widely reported. (Daily Mail, NY Daily News)

This is of course entirely in line with the Government's Every Child Matters "programme of change to improve outcomes for all children and young people... (taking) forward the Government's vision of radical reform for children, young people and families." and which is a key programme that all schools (Catholic schools included) in the UK are assessed on.

  1. Sadly Father, this is not something that should be publicised imho

  2. If it's illegal to sell drink to an under-age person, then how come it's not illegal to sell a condom to a child under the age of consent, or have I missed something?

  3. What is the age of consent in the UK? -- England & Wales, in particular, in case Scotland is different?

Here in the US (laws may vary according to state) the age of consent is generally age 16. [Gee, will the government next be giving the keys to a Ferrari and a bottle of Scotch to 9 year olds?]

Can this be oppossed just on general principle that any 12-14 year old boy having sex with someone is certainly not likely to be getting it on with someone much older than himself? [not too many boys age 12-14 going out with girls 16 and up, not many of them would be seen going out with boys that young!] I'm guessing boys of 12-14 are going out with girls of a similar age or younger. There's a reason for "statuatory rape" laws. I'm betting you can't sell pornographic magazines to people under a certain age either. Ditto booze.
