Pope Benedict orders an investigation into Neo Cat Mass

According to Sandro Magister, (That Strange Mass the Pope Doesn't Like)
With a letter written personally to Cardinal William J. Levada, Benedict XVI has ordered the congregation for the doctrine of the faith to examine whether the Neocatechumenal Masses are or are not in keeping with the liturgical teaching and practice of the Catholic Church.

A "problem," in the pope's judgment, that is "of great urgency" for the whole Church.
In January the Pope spoke to members of "TheWay" about the importance of unity in liturgical matters, that the Roman Missal must be followed.

  1. My experience of the NCW, of which I am not and do not want to be a member, is that their worship is rich and full and makes much more of the elements of liturgy than parish masses ordinarily do, while fully respecting the essentials of the mass. (EF masses too are often distressingly minimalist). Why cannot we accept a degree of diversity in the way we worship God? Why should unity have to mean unformity in liturgical practice? Non-churchy people seem to be much better at "live and let live" than bossy domineering trad Catholics.

Like that bossy, domineering and trad Pope Benedict?

The problem is that we cannot have liturgical diversity and claim to be one Church. Yes, there are legitimate rites in the Church, but within each rite (Eastern, Latin) there must be uniformity according to the norms of the Church. Otherwise, where do you draw the line? In the Latin Church, there are two legitimate forms of the Mass: the Ordinary and the Extraordinary. The NCW like any other group must stick to those forms, making use of the legitimate options that exist in each form, without adding further options that are not given.

The liturgy belongs to the whole Church, not to any particular community.

If we really abided by the GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal) and truly sought out the richness of the liturgical music that the GIRM permits and mandates, our Masses would be full of splendour.

EF Masses when celebrated as Low Mass are of course minimalist, but where a choir and servers are available, it is far from being so.

  3. I was a member in the Neocat way and I assure you there is a lot of endoctrination of wrong doctrines, not catholic in spirit, only in the appearance, that takes place in this group. This is why they have a separate mass. And yes they a special rite. You can change nothing in any way. The parish priest is only a servant and the catechist or responsible of the group runs the show as he learned to do it. He safeguards the Neocat rites with all the songs and details. For example, we couldn't start the mass if the chantor was not there with his guitar. We had to wait. Is this a rite or not ??? We couldn't start if there are no flowers on the table. Is this catholic??? Families with kids are supposed to have a cebration at home Sunday morning to become a home church. Is this a rite or not??? They don't attend Sunday mass. If neocats share the same faith as other Catholics then they shouldn't have separate massesat all. Brainwashing is the Neocat secret. Please let the the Holy Pope inquire with the ones who left the Neocat way not the ones who stayed to understand better how they function and what they teach. Adepts are emprisoned because they don't know what Christianity is. They are mislead. We were not allowed to participate in any church activity with others. We were always isolated. With his directives kiko doesn't leave anybody the time to be in communion with others outside the Way. Adepts witness to how the Neocat way changed their life, not how God changed their life through the way. So many times they use the word the way to mean God. Please let the Pope know all these things. United in prayer for souls who are searching for Jesus Real peace. I will write more.

    1. I have published your comment for the sake of providing a space for you. But if you want to write more I suggest you write to Cardinal Levada at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Since it is the CDF that is investigating, the Holy See clearly thinks there is something serious to be looked into and so I should imagine that the Cardinal would be interested in hearing from you.
