Nancy Pelosi deserves to be deprived of Holy Communion

Eminent canonist Dr Ed. Peters writes:
As a canon lawyer, my view is that Nancy Pelosi deserves to be deprived of holy Communion as the just consequence of her public actions; as her fellow Catholic, my view is that Nancy Pelosi deserves to be deprived of holy Communion to bring home to her and to the wider faith community the gravity of her conduct and the need to avoid such conduct altogether or, that failing, at least to repent of it. Quickly.

  1. This would be an interesting essay subject for school students of year 9 or 10. In our local Catholic school the year 7 students were asked to write a letter from the parish priest to parents who wanted a second child baptised, when they had not gone to Mass since the baptism of their first child. The lettwers from the children (some of whom don't attend Mass regularly)was clear and stern, one even suggested that he would tell all the local parishes that they should not baptise the child!
One mother explained the ongoing need for spiritual formation to her child in terms of a mother giving birth needs to feed the child or it will die, the same goes with the spiritual life. Similarly food may succour even the most sick person but it cannot, and should not, be given to someone who is dead.

    1. It's interesting how clearly these students saw the matter. Yet the Church is merciful, particularly when it comes to baptism...
