Hopefully, in time, we shall be able to provide Missa Cantata, Solemn High Mass and even Pontifical High Mass.
Young servers seem very interested in the Mass and a very good number were on hand today. The priests who acted as Chaplains (servers) to the Bishop were Father Ronald Timock, Pastor of St Anthony's, Gwinn, as First Chaplain and my as Second Chaplain.
The Mass was celebrated in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, which used to be known as the Bishop's Chapel. The chapel was packed to capacity, with extra seats being put out in the aisle and people seated in the choir balcony. Here are some photos taken by John Fee, editor of the UP Catholic, and reproduced here by kind permission:

Thanks go to all those who helped make this possible. Lay people were very generous in contributing money to buy the vestments. Next Mass: 4pm next Sunday (without the solemnity).
Father John,
ReplyDeleteI knew it would happen eventually....where you are! Congratulations.
Best wishes for Christmas.

Lovely! and such good news to hear. Would that all the bishops lead by such example.
ReplyDeleteWow! I hope we can have a Bishop like him here in Manila, Philippines
ReplyDeleteOne is hopeful that Bishop Sample might publish a reflection upon his experience of this Holy Mass.
ReplyDeleteProficiat ... hopefully it would be extended to Indonesia as well.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Monsignor Schuler would be proud: the beauty of the Roman rite seen today.
ReplyDeleteGreen (Purple?) with envy over here in Diocese of Superior. Ad multos annos, Bishop Sample. Train some missionaries and send them our way!

Mary Lou Gray, Falmouth, Cape Cod. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures of the celebration of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite by Bishop Sample. On Sunday I travel to Hyannis, Cape Cod to participate in the only, as far as I know, regularly scheduled Sunday celebration of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite in the Diocese of Fall River. As our young priests become familiar with this Rite I hope and pray that its celebration becomes more readily available throughout the diocese. Yours in Jesus and Mary. Mary Lou Gray
ReplyDeleteLooked splendid I must say!
ReplyDeleteFr., do you know if the Bishop's homily is available online somewhere?
ReplyDeleteCazienza: as far as I could tell the Bishop preached without notes and it was not recorded.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Have seen His Excellency at Guadalupe Shrine in La Crosse, WI.
ReplyDeleteDeo Gratias. I know Msgr Richard Schuler is proud of his first Bishop. If ALL American bishops would only follow suit.
ReplyDeleteWhen you come home to Southwark please try and have Archbishop Peter celebrate the EF of the RR at St George's Cathedral.
ReplyDeleteAll good wishes for a Blessed and Holy Season of Christmas.

Thanks be to God for your efforts, Father, and those of His Excellency Bishop Sample for bringing the EF to Marquette. I was pleased to be one of several young Catholics in attendance this Second Sunday of Advent and plan to attend the Third and Fourth Sundays as well.
ReplyDeleteFantastic, Such a great news to hear!
