While some people talk abo...That is fantastic news. While some people talk about the New Evangelisation, the Bishop of Lancaster is actually doing something. It seems to me that the New Evangelisation has to be, initially at least, aimed at stopping the steady loss of baptised Catholics from the faith. Why are people leaving? Because they see no reason to stay. Why do they see no reason to stay? Because they are not conscious of their need for forgiveness of their sins. One of the great benefits of promoting more frequent use of Confession is that it will awaken in people a greater consciousness of their sinfulness and their need for forgiveness. Once people become more conscious of their sinfulness they will become more aware of their need for Holy Communion. Then, hopefully, they will have a greater desire to attend Mass. But to be really effective it must not just be for Lent. Confession must be promoted all year long. Now, how can other dioceses be persuaded to follow the good example of Lancaster.Mikenoreply@blogger.com
